From the Past, For the Future

From Humble Beginnings

Established in 1991, the Estero Island Historic Society (EIHS) emerged from the efforts of a group of dedicated Fort Myers Beach residents. Their shared vision was to establish a nonprofit organization committed to the preservation and documentation of the island's rich history. In 1995, the founding members orchestrated the successful relocation of the cherished "We're Here" cottage from its former location on Mango Street to its new and permanent home on Bay Road.

Functioning as a nonprofit organization, the EIHS stands as a guardian of our island's history. With a core mission of safeguarding the history of our community, we strive to foster a deeper understanding and heightened appreciation for the events, personalities, and cultural influences that have shaped our island's history.

We offer a diverse range of engaging activities, educational programs, and accessible resources designed to illuminate the history of our island. Central to our efforts is a dedicated team of volunteers, unwavering in their commitment to presenting both the past and present of our region with accuracy and depth.

We extend a warm invitation to all interested parties to join us in uncovering the captivating narratives that define our community. Through active engagement with the Estero Island Historic Society, you'll gain an enriched perspective on the evolution of our locality and its enduring significance.
